To describe why I want to be a video game designer we have to think back to when games did not have stories or even controllers, just a couple of buttons. This all changed when Shigeru Miyamoto was put in charge of creating games for Nintendo. For starters my favorite game designer and my personal hero is Shigeru Miyamoto because I am a huge fan of Nintendo and I spent most of my childhood with a N64 and a horde of games inherited from my brother and I always admired the quality and passion put in Nintendo games like Zelda The Ocarina of Time or Perfect Dark and I could go on naming games like this but then I wouldn't fit the character limit. I deeply admire how Miyamoto took a very simple project, radarscope which was just a game where you push a couple buttons, and decided to push the boundary. Because of that decision we have some of the most popular video game characters that are still common to this day such as Link and Mario. That decision allows us to create games that convey emotions and life lessons. Miyamoto understood that you can add story with real emotion and passion to video games so they could tell stories through the game like a book or movie could, games like Red Dead Redemption or Mass Effect where gamers can immerse themselves in the story, setting, history and land of the game. With games like this most people know the story of the game and backstory of how lands were formed in the game better than they know the history of the United States. The gamer forms like a kind of bond with the characters that they play and associate with and begins to like feel their pain and go through their struggles (which is another reason why I admire Anti-Heroes the most) to the extent where a gamer would even cry at the death of a character or when they lose something important to them and one of big reasons I want to be a game designer is that power that immerses players into the game while at the same time they are having fun and a good time through gameplay. A video game with a good enough story could easily compare to any book or any movie because when you read a book, you the reader are immersing yourself into the book the same way someone watching a movie understands the emotions of the characters, their story, and their struggle yet when you play a videogame you are doing both at the same time. Shigeru Miyamoto is known as the Father of Video games for a reason because without him, games would still be mindless entertainment. Shigeru Miyamoto taught me what it really means to be a game designer and that is to always do what you think will improve the future of video gaming and apply real story and emotion to games like tear jerking stories where the player has a stake in what's going on instead of just pushing buttons and using cutscenes as an excuse to raid the fridge. I want to become a game designer because I want to create characters beloved by the gamers, Stories that everyone knows and the kind where the experience changes you as a person and gives you a new perspective on life and on Video gaming, Mechanics that revolutionized the world of gaming so future generations can perfect the art of telling a true story through an experience and most of all make everyone who helped me including my family proud of me.
